Spread the love

It’s that time of year again, when cooler weather is on the horizon and crocheters and knitters alike get excited for fall markets and gift making. I don’t know about you, but I’ve had autumn on the brain for at least a month already! Get a head start on your fall making this month through the All Things Fall Blog Hop, hosted by Carroway Crochet and Fosbas Designs.

For the entire month of August, you can get a free pattern a day that is fall-themed. Or you can buy all the patterns in an inexpensive PDF bundle to get access immediately! Read to find out more and get the link to my free pattern, the Life is Gourd Dishcloth Set, on August 2nd.

What is a blog hop?

Basically, a blog hop is an online event organized to help promote the blogs of individual pattern designers. As a viewer, there are usually four steps to get the free pattern every day:

  1. Every day, go to the host’s blog post about the hop. Right now, the host is Fosbas Designs.
  2. Scroll to today’s date to get the coupon code for the free pattern, and the link to the designer’s blog.
  3. Go to the designer’s blog to find the link to the pattern on Ravelry.
  4. Add the pattern to your cart and check out using the coupon code.

It’s actually pretty simple! There are links every step of the way to point you to the next step. It should take less than five minutes to nab the pattern offered for the day!

This fall-themed dishcloth set has a pumpkin stitch motif for a practical and subtle seasonal decor for the pumpkin lover! The Life Is Gourd Dishcloth can also be made into a potholder or trivet by attaching two dishcloths together along the edges. There are even instructions to make a dish towel version within the pattern! This is a great cotton yarn stash buster and makes a great gift this time of year. Go for a monotone look to match your everyday decor or go bold with colorwork to make your pumpkins pop. This pattern is written in US terminology.

Using worsted weight cotton yarn, gauge is 13 sc x 15 rows = 4”. Personally, I used a US-J/ 6.00 mm hook. I used a combination of Peaches & Crème and Cascade Nifty Cotton, and you could really use any worsted weight cotton yarn that meets gauge.

The dishcloth measures 8″ x 8″ and takes approximately 70 yards yarn. If you choose to color block (like in the version shown below), you will need about 40 yards for the main color and 30 yards for the contrast color. Actual yardage varies though, depending on your gauge, so these are just estimates to help you plan!

For the dish towel variation, which measures 12″ x 24″, you will need approximately 220 yards of the main color and 40 yards of the contrast color. Both versions are included in the pattern!
