As I enter my third trimester being pregnant with out first child, I have major baby fever. I have loved making things for our baby girl as we anxiously await her arrival in a few months. I never understood the idea of crocheting bibs for babies since it would get gross really quick from baby food, but I recently found out about dribble bibs. For anyone that has had a teething infant, you know that they will slobber all over themselves constantly. If you use a dribble bib on your child, you can simply change out the slobbery bib instead of the baby’s whole outfit- which is a way simpler process. Add on the fact that you can have an adorable bandanna that coordinates with your child’s outfit, and the cuteness level is unreal! I knew I had to make my own dribble bibs for our baby girl.
This bib is the perfect advanced beginner stash-buster project that you can make for baby shower gifts or market makes. This pattern features the simple yet unique texture found throughout the Sweet Pea collection and includes instructions for adding picot mesh edging to the bib for a more feminine finish (it’s still perfect for baby boy if you don’t include the edging!). Instructions are included for using a pacifier clip to secure the bib, rather than a button that could present a choking hazard. I wanted this pattern to be the safest it could be.
If you want an inexpensive, printable version of this pattern, you can purchase the pattern at these links for Etsy, my website store, and Ravelry. Doing so helps support my small business and I greatly appreciate when you purchase, share a link, or make my patterns!
Materials
- Approximately 60 yards of worsted weight yarn
- I/5.5 mm hook
- Pacifier clip
- Tapestry needle
This bib measures approximately 7 ½ inches long from neck to point and approximately 15 inches around the neck when clasped. This size is for a 6-12 month baby.
Gauge
- With a foundation ch of 17 and starting in second ch (sk first ch as it is the turning ch) *[SC, HDC, DC] in same st, sk 2 sts* repeat from * to * 5 times, 1 SC in last st x 10 rows = 4” x 4”
Notes
Stitch repeats are marked with * * or ** **
This pattern includes instructions for adding a pacifier clip as the way to secure the bib. This ensures a much lower risk of a choking hazard than a traditional button does. The pacifier clip is crocheted onto the bib to secure it. Pictures and written instructions are included.
There are two types of “cluster” stitches used throughout this pattern: [SC, HDC, DC] in the same stitch and [DC, HDC, SC] in the same stitch. Included at the end of each row is the total stitch count as well as the total number of clusters.
