Sweet Pea Christmas Stocking: A Free Pattern

Spread the love

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! This year I wanted to gift my daughter a handmade heirloom for her first Christmas. She already had plenty of blankets, more clothes than she can possibly wear, and numerous amigurumi toys. Then I realized- she didn’t have a Christmas stocking to hang yet! Since we don’t have a mantle, my family traditionally hangs stockings on the staircase for Santa Clause. As I hung the stockings for my husband, myself, and out cat, there was a spot just for Baby Girl that needed to be filled. I finished the stocking and pattern just in time, and I wanted to share that pattern with you here.

If you have already made your handmade gifts this year for your loved ones, you can use this pattern to make stockings with the beautiful yarn you were gifted for Christmas! Either way, this pattern works up pretty quickly if you want to make some last minute gifts or have plans to make a matching set for the whole family.

Materials

  • Approximately 260 yards of DK/weight 3 yarn
  • H/5.0 mm hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker

Gauge

  • Gauge is not really important since you can make this stocking any size.
  • My stocking came out to 5.5 inches wide, 9 inches long from toe to heel, and 11.5 inches long from heel to the top of the ribbing.
  • My gauge in the round is: 6 cluster stitches in stitch pattern ([SC, HDC, DC] in same st, sk next 2 sts) x 13 rows= 4″ x 4″

Notes

Stitch repeats are marked with * *

The stocking is worked from the toe up in the round, with each round joined before starting the next round. The toe portion is just joined while the main body of the stocking is joined and then turned. You then go back and work the heel in a similar manner.

A cluster stitch is [SC, HDC, DC] in the same stitch.

Stitch counts are included at the end of each row as either (#) for total stitch count or (# clusters).
