The best crochet patterns are made out of necessity when you can’t find what you are looking for already out in the wide world. This pattern definitely fits that description! One of my former college roommates, an Astronomy and Physics major and overall space enthusiast, was having her first baby and her registry theme was obviously outer space. I thought it would be so cute to make a rocketship lovey for the baby and scoured the internet for a pattern, but I couldn’t find any. I decided to make my own and share it with you!
If you want an inexpensive, printable version of this pattern, you can purchase the pattern at these links for Etsy and Ravelry. Doing so helps support my small business and I greatly appreciate when you purchase, share a link, or make my patterns!
This lovey pattern is out of this world! Both the rocketship and the lovey-sized blanket are completely customizable in color so you can match whatever nursery decor your little one already has. This pattern is a quick make that is a great way to use up small balls of worsted weight yarn in your stash leftover from previous projects. You can remind a child to reach for the stars with a precious, homemade gift. This is an advanced beginner pattern that includes increases, decreases, and seaming, with a granny square motif used as well. Gauge is not critical for this pattern. However, for the components of the rocket you should have tight stitches that will not show any stuffing in the final piece, which is typical for the amigurumi style. This pattern is written with the rocket portion of the lovey crocheted in the round and then fastened off, with the yarn then joined to the rocket to make the blanket portion of the lovey in a granny square configuration. The window and fins of the rocket are crocheted separately in the round and then sewed onto the rocket.
Materials
- Approximately 500 yards total worsted weight yarn in colors of your choice
- G/4.25 mm crochet hook
- I/5.5 mm crochet hook

- Tapestry needle
My rocketship measures approximately 8’’ tall x 3’’ wide, with the granny blanket measures approximately 27’’ square when made with 20 rows total. These measurements, and your yardage, will change based on your tension.

I made a purple rocketship lovey for my baby girl because I want to teach her that she can reach for the stars if she wants to. I want her to know that she can love rockets and space if she wants to.
